QCAM & AMP Summer Community College Opportunity for Research Exprience (SCCORE)
Being a part of the NMSU community means QCAM is able to leverage partnerships with already established programs. One such program that we are very fortunate to be partnered with is the NM Alliance for Minority Participation (AMP). This program is a statewide partnership of universities and colleges with a goal to increase the number of underrepresented minority students who successfully complete their B.S. degrees in the STEM disciplines. In particular, QCAM worked with AMP this summer to co-sponsor a student in their Summer Community College Opportunity for Research Experience (SCCORE). The SCCORE program provides community college students with research opportunities, fosters academic success, and assists in the transition to university.
QCAM was able to co-sponsor 1 student this year. This student was given the opportunity to serve as a Research Assistant to QCAM director Dr. Ehsan Dehghan Niri. As a part of the SCCORE program students also attend a credit-bearing course that offers professional development. At the end of this 4-week program, a mini-symposium was held in which the students presented the preliminary findings.
