Los Alamos National Lab Recruitment Visit
Last week our partners from Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) came by the NMSU campus for another recruitment visit. We were honored to have both Mr. Tommy Rockward and Dr. Cristian Pantea on site to meet with undergraduate and graduate students from the College of Engineering.
Mr. Rockward presented to a room full of eager and interested students on all the great opportunities and benefits there are when working for LANL. Students were informed on how to find and apply for internships and or jobs, the increased benefit they would have from being an intern when looking for a career position, and all the exposure to hands-on learning they would receive from world-class research scientists.
Also as a part of their visit, Dr. Pantea was featured as the guest lecturer for the Mechanical Engineering Graduate Seminar Series. He presented on the concept of Acoustics, for both sensing and manipulation with sound, with measurements performed in both time- and frequency-domain. Specific examples were provided for methods and sensors development, with a focus on difficult and challenging conditions (high pressure, high temperature, corrosive media, radiation, etc.), ending with some of their latest efforts in sensing/manipulation with sound for improving mechanical properties of 3D-printed parts.
