Fall 2024 Undergraduate Research & Capstone Projects

Last month saw the conclusion of several QCAM undergraduate research projects from both the URS and Capstone Programs at NMSU.

Two of the QCAM sponsored Capstone senior design teams at NMSU completed their year-long projects with a poster session at the Corbett Center on Friday, December 6th. Students from both teams showcased the knowledge and experience they gained by presenting their findings and answering questions from fellow students and NMSU faculty. One project was overseen by mentors from our partners at Los Alamos National Lab, while the other was partnered with a mentor from Oak Ridge National Lab. Several of the team members had secured job offers with in private industry positions, while others are still finishing their degrees or looking into continuing their academic careers in graduate studies.

The URS Project teams also completed their semester-long project on “the Effect of Printing Parameters on Porosity and Mechanical Properties” and "Print Warping Detection Using Infrared Camera”. They concluded their project with a virtual presentation at the QCAM Technical Meeting on Thursday, December 5th. These projects were overseen by QCAM Director, Dr. Borys Drach. One of our URS students received his bachelors in mechanical engineering at the conclusion of the semester. The other two will finish their degrees this spring, and continue to be involved with the QCAM project.

We would like to wish the best of luck to all of these students as they continue on their educational journey and/or start their careers. We are eager to see what comes next for all of them
