QCAM & AMP Summer 2023

For the second year in a row, QCAM was lucky enough to be able to co-sponsor 2 students in the NM AMP Summer Community College Opportunity for Research Experience (SCCORE). The SCCORE program provides community college students with research opportunities at accredited New Mexico universities, fosters academic success, and assists in the potential transition to university.

This year both SCCORE students were overseen by QCAM director, Dr. Borys Drach. The 2 students selected to be co-sponsored by QCAM worked on projects related to “Destructive & Non-Destructive Evaluation of Additively Manufactured Engine Bracket Produced with Polylactic Acid” and “Additive Manufacturing Onyx Material Testing”

This unique program provides an overview of NMSU including campus resources and university life. Participating students live on campus, attend a credit-bearing class, and receive professional development training. The program lasted for 5 weeks with students spending 15 hours per week in the Non-Destructive Evaluation Lab. Both students presented their research at a SCCORE Poster Symposium on June 29, 2023 and will also be invited to present at the NM AMP Student Research Conference at NMSU in the fall 2023 semester.

We are also proud to report that one of the AMP SCCORE students enjoyed the experience so much that they requested to have their research project extended. Because this student demonstrated such a great drive and aptitude for research, QCAM was able to provide an additional URS experience for this student during the remainder of the summer session in July & August.

If you are interested in participating in the NM AMP SCCORE program with QCAM, applications open during the Spring Semester every year as long as funding is available. Check out the NM AMP website for more info.
