3rd Annual QCAM Summer Workshop
April showers bring May flowers, and the return of the annual QCAM Summer workshop at Navajo Technical University (NTU). Once again this year, 15 students from all three QCAM university partners were selected to participate in a 2-week intensive hands-on training workshop.
Under the direction of QCAM Co-I, Scott Halliday, and his amazing team at the NTU Fabrication Lab, participants trained on topics related to quality control in additive manufacturing. Some of the areas that were covered included: design (computer-aided design), metal additive manufacturing (machine operation, maintenance, and safety), machining (electric discharge machining, computer numerical control machining), metrology (coordinate measuring machine, X-ray computed tomography scanning), materials testing (tensile testing and digital image correlation), and materials characterization (optical and scanning electron microscopy).
Participants were also given the opportunity to learn from and network with representatives and scientists from our three National Lab partners. The students were introduced to what opportunities are available to them at NNSA laboratories and the vital research that is being done.
The students that participated gave us some great feedback, and overall they seemed to really enjoy and value the experience. We look forward to hosting this annual workshop in the years to come as it is an important and vital component of the QCAM pathway.
