QCAM Welcomes Two Additional Graduate Research Assistants in Fall 2024
This Fall, the QCAM project welcomed two new graduate research assistants. Both students had been previously involved in the QCAM programs such as the summer workshop at NTU and undergraduate research projects.
Roman Chavez - NMSU Graduate Research Assistant
Roman joins the QCAM project in his second semester of graduate school at NMSU. Roman is currently pursuing his Master’s of engineering in mechanical engineering. Roman previously interned with the Department of Defense at the Kirkland Airforce Base in the summer of 2023 and attended the QCAM summer workshop at NTU in the summer of 2024 before joining the team at NMSU in the Non-destructive evaluation lab; overseen by QCAM Director, Dr. Borys Drach. Roman will be mentored by Dr. Drach as he researchs the “Effect of Printing Parameters on Porosity and Mechanical Properties”
Xavier Crawford - PVAMU Graduate Research Assistant
Xavier has been conducting research on additive manufacturing since his junior year in BS in Mechanical Engineering at Prairie View A&M University. He is a QCAM student ambassador and has been one of the most active members since the onset of the QCAM project.
Currently, he is pursuing Masters of Science in Engineering with a concentration in Mechanical Engineering. His research is centered on working to better understand and characterize the continuous fiber reinforced composite 3D printing. Specifically, he focuses to establish empirical relationship between fiber and build directions and their effect on mechanical strength via ultrasound and mechanical testing. He is in route to complete his master’s thesis by Summer 2025.
